surprise! no scale today

Posted on 31 July 2009

I decided to skip weighing, for selfish reasons. We made fajitas last night, and I did eat more than I wanted. Not tooo bad, but I just wasn’t in the mood to weigh, especially after I just had a nice drop, so there’s no way it could have been good. I did get in a decent at home workout yesterday though (mom was still in too much back pain to walk) and did some resistance training. I really need to work on upping that to twice a week.

Today has been ok, but haven’t worked out yet because I just finished a stressful workday.

Just stuff

Posted on 31 July 2009

I figured everyone who reads this blog reads my family blog, so I didn’t report on my 10k here. The short story is I finished. Although, I was a bit disappointed with my time, it gives me something to beat next time. Gives me a goal to work on. This race is calling my name next year. I will have to see how I feel next summer. Then maybe I can decrease my time. For my first 10k 1:08:03 is not too shabby.

My plan is to run through the winter. This is going to be a challenge to me.

Product Review – G2 Fitness Stretch And Exercise Mats

Posted on 31 July 2009

G2 Fitness offered to send me an exercise mat of my choice for review, and I went with the G2 Back Stretch Fitness Mat.

Unlike a standard exercise mat, G2 Fitness Mats contain images of each stretch, a proposed number of repetitions and a recommended time frame for holding each stretch. Sounds simplistic, and it is (I really wish that I thought of this!). In retrospect, I’m astounded that this hasn’t been executed prior to G2 Fitness’ entry in to the marketplace.

The Back Stretch Fitness Mat contains a total of 28 stretches which are designed to strengthen back muscles and increase overall flexibility to keep your back injury-free over time.

I found the stretches to be pretty on the mark with what I would typically do.

Hope You Didn’t Hold Your Breath!

Posted on 30 July 2009

Well, folks - I hope you took my advice and didn’t hold your breath waiting for an update. Because if you did you’re dead by now and I would lose a follower. Boo hoo! Right now I’m in the Red Carpet Club in Chicago waiting for my flight back to OC, and I thought I would give the blog a quick refresh.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of days. A canceled flight on Tuesday got me into Philadelphia at 12:30 AM Wednesday. Lucky for me Geno’s is open 24 by 7!

happier day today

Posted on 30 July 2009

Yay, the scale was much nicer to me today, 161.6, which means I pretty much made my goal, just one day late. I am really relieved (and this should teach me not to get all pouty if the scale randomly showed a high weight when I don’t think I deserved it, but I’ll never learn that lesson). Not sure why I was hanging on to those pounds and suddenly dropped 2.4 in 2 days, but weird things happen sometimes. I’m sure it was just water weight and glad it’s gone.

A Quick Fix For Painful Push-Ups

Posted on 30 July 2009

This article was written by Eric Cressey, author of Maximum Strength, a book I highly recommend for anyone looking to build muscle and mix up their strength training routine in the gym (note: not for home-based workouts unless you have a power rack and Olympic weights!).

I specifically wanted to post this for my friend Caron who has suffered from shoulder problems in the past, but never let it stop her from a maniacal gym schedule (I mean that in a good way!).

Q: I’ve read a lot from you, Robertson, and Hartman about how push-ups are really important for shoulder health.

just another wednesday

Posted on 29 July 2009

Ok, so Wednesday was supposed to be my goal day, I weighed again. 162.6. At least it is less than last Wednesday instead of a gain like it would have been with yesterday’s weight. Yuck. So I lost like 0.8 I think this week, and missed my goal by 1 pound. Oh well, I’ll hope that means the next week will be a good one. I should be relieved, since I really haven’t had a good workout since Friday. Monday I only did a measley 20 minutes on my stair stepper while reading a book, and yesterday I managed absolutely nothing because my mom cancelled our walk on me, and I thought I was going to help my brother move, but ended up not doing much of that either and then I was depressed and just wanted to keep reading my book instead.
